Bodhisattva
A Bodhisattva is an enlightened being in Mahayana Buddhism who chooses to remain in the cycle of samsara to assist all sentient beings in attaining enlightenment. Renowned for embodying the virtues of compassion, selflessness, and wisdom, a Bodhisattva exemplifies the highest ideal of spiritual aspiration. Unlike Buddhas, who have attained complete liberation, Bodhisattvas forgo final nirvana to guide others. The term itself means "one who has achieved bodhi (enlightenment) but is still committed to helping others reach the same state." Famous Bodhisattvas include Avalokiteshvara, the deity of infinite compassion, and Manjushri, the embodiment of wisdom.
