Twenty-One Tara Statue Set from Nepal – Oxidized Copper Buddhist Sculpture Collection

This Twenty-One Tara statue set from Nepal is cast in solid copper using lost wax method, a technique preserved for generations by Newari artisans. Each sculpture is chemically oxidized in an acidic solution to develop a deep brown patina that also protects copper beneath. Fine hand-chased engravings give depth and texture to robes, ornaments and lotus bases, while semi-precious stones catches light across every crown and jewel. Together, the twenty-one statues form a complete oxidized copper Buddhist sculpture collection, made as a centerpiece for a shrine or meditation space devoted to Mother Tara.

The set follows the Surya Gupta tradition, revealed through visions of Kashmiri mahasiddha Suryagupta. In this lineage each Tara is a distinct enlightened presence with her own posture, expression, arms and implements, and together they express the four activities of pacifying, magnetizing and wrathful action through which compassion meets every kind of suffering.

Green Tara sits at the center on a lotus seat with a serene expression, her right hand in the gesture of fearlessness and her left in boon-granting, with an utpala flower rising at each side. In the upper row, Usnisavijaya Tara, bestower of long life holds scripture and vase in her four arms beside Humkaranadini Tara, whose utpala-bearing form proclaims sound of HUM and subdues adversity.

The second row presents Apadavimocani Tara with her axe, liberating beings from calamity; Trailokyavijaya Tara with her vajra; Pravira Tara and Sokavinodani Tara with hands raised above the crown, the swift heroine and the dispeller of sorrow. The middle row flanks Green Tara with wrathful Bhrkuti Tara, whose six arms and skull garland cut through hindrances while Paripacaka Tara who ripens karma and subdues obstacles. Varada Tara, granter of boons and Maramardanesvari Tara, conqueror of Mara are each enthroned upon a mythical mount.

The fourth row gathers Duhkhadahani Tara with Sukhasadhani Tara, bringer of ease and joy while Candrakanti Tara, Siddhisambhava Tara and Humsvara-nadini Tara, sources attainments and mantra resounding through every realm. The lowest row presents Raganisudani Tara, destroyer of attachment with Mahasanti Tara, Paripurani Tara, Apavadipramardani Tara and Kanakavarni Tara, the golden giver of prosperity and longevity.

Seen together, the peaceful and wrathful forms show that compassion adapts its face to every need, from gentle healing to fierce protection, making this Surya Gupta 21 Tara statue set a profound focus for devotion, visualization and daily practice.
