About Butter Lamp

To use the Butter Lamp, simply fill it with your choice of oil—coconut oil, vegetable oil, or traditional yak butter—and insert a rolled cotton wick upright through the central hole. In Tibetan Buddhist rituals, lighting the butter lamp is a powerful act of devotion, often performed in large numbers during auspicious occasions such as the full moon day, new moon day, and important spiritual ceremonies. The Buddhist butter lamp is traditionally placed between the fourth and fifth offering bowls in a row of seven offering bowls filled with pure water, positioned before sacred images on the household shrine.
