Introduction To Chenrezig

Chenrezig, also known as Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit, is one of the most loved and respected figures in Tibetan Buddhism. He represents infinite compassion and is believed to hear the cries of anyone who is suffering, always working to help them. In Tibetan tradition, the Dalai Lama is seen as a living embodiment of Chenrezig’s compassion. Chenrezig is usually shown with four arms—two hands held together at his heart holding a jewel, showing his pure intentions, while the other two hold a lotus flower and prayer beads, symbols of kindness and spiritual practice. People often chant his mantra, "Om Mani Padme Hum," to ask for his blessings and to grow compassion in their own hearts.
