Description

Supreme Dorje Chang Sculpture from Nepal | The Cosmic Personification of Enlightenment Itself

Elevated upon a beautiful celestial throne, this Vajradhara Statue stands as a monumental piece of sacred art. Skilled Newari artisans from Nepal shaped the piece from solid copper through the lost-wax process and finished it with a gold fire-gilded surface. Semi-precious turquoise and coral stones are inlaid throughout while meticulous hand-chasing brings rich depth and texture to every surface.

At the center sits Vajradhara, also known as Dorje Chang, seated gracefully upon a lotus pedestal, his gold fire-gilded body radiating the boundless nature of infinite space and emptiness. His serene expression and five-jeweled crown express the profound symbolism found within Vajrayana Buddhist iconography. His hands cross at the heart holding the vajra and bell together. The royal garments are finely hand-chased with patterns across, adds further richness to his presence.

Behind and beneath the deity rises an elaborate throne featuring a tall aureole framed by dense floral vines and blossoms inlaid with semi-precious stones. A majestic Garuda crowns the halo while a pair of makara figures grace either side and twin snow lines emerge from the outer scrollwork to reinforce its divine grandeur. Together the deity, halo and tiered base form a monumental altar composition, making this Vajradhara Statue an exceptional centerpiece for meditation and contemplation.

About Vajradhara

Vajradhara, the "Holder of the Vajra," is the highest manifestation of enlightenment in Vajrayana Buddhism, embodying the ultimate truth of Dharmakaya—the formless, all-pervading reality beyond time and space. As the primordial Buddha of tantra, he represents the inseparable union of wisdom and compassion, the very essence of all tantric teachings. His presence signifies the unchanging, and his teachings reveal the path to awakening beyond conceptual limitations. The mantra "Om Vajradhara Hum" encapsulates his enlightened power.
