Masterpiece Guru Rinpoche Statue | Handcrafted Newari Metalwork from Nepal

Crafted by master Newari artisans in Kathmandu Valley, this large-sized Guru Rinpoche statue is shaped from solid copper using traditional lost-wax technique. Layers of genuine 24K gold fire-gilding give sculpture a luminous finish, while hand-inlaid turquoise, coral and lapis stones are set in delicate patterns across the crown, jewelries and robes. Fine floral engravings trace the swirling garments, and the figure rests upon a lotus pedestal detailed with scrolling motifs, a fitting testament to centuries-old tradition of Newari metalwork in Nepal.

Revered as the Second Buddha, also known as Padmasambhava is depicted seated gracefully upon a lotus pedestal. His face is painted in gold pigment, and he holds a vajra in his right hand as a symbol of indestructible wisdom while a kapala, or skull cup, rests in his lap to represent complete transformation of ego. The sacred khatvanga staff rests upon his shoulder, embodying the perfect union of wisdom and skillful means. This Guru Rinpoche statue serves as a graceful centerpiece for any meditation room or sacred space. As a one-of-a-kind masterpiece with no copies in existence, it is a rare treasure for collectors and devotees of Nepalese Buddhist art.

About Guru Rinpoche

Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava or the “Precious Guru,” is a legendary tantric master and enlightened being credited with bringing Vajrayana Buddhism to Tibet in the 8th century. Born miraculously from a lotus in the land of Oddiyana, he is revered as a fully awakened emanation of the Buddha, sent to tame negative forces and reveal profound esoteric teachings. Guru Rinpoche played a pivotal role in establishing the Nyingma school, the oldest of the four major schools of Tibetan Buddhism, and in founding Samye Monastery, Tibet’s first Buddhist monastery. His teachings, miracles, and hidden spiritual treasures (terma) continue to inspire generations of practitioners. He is invoked as the “Second Buddha” and a powerful guide on the path to liberation, with devotees reciting his sacred Guru Rinpoche mantra: Om Ah Hung Vajra Guru Pema Siddhi Hum.
