Tsheringma

Tsheringma, the goddess of longevity and the leader of the Five Long-Life Sisters (Tsering Chenga), is a powerful Dharma protector in Tibetan Buddhism. Originally a fierce mountain spirit of the Himalayas, she and her sisters were subdued by Padmasambhava and bound by oath to protect Buddhist practitioners. Residing on Gangkhar Puensum, the world's highest unclimbed mountain, she is believed to grant long life, prosperity, and spiritual accomplishments to those who invoke her. One well-known story tells of the Tibetan yogi Milarepa, who was tested by Tsheringma while meditating in a remote cave. She first appeared as a wrathful force to challenge his devotion, but when he remained steadfast in his practice, she transformed into a benevolent deity and offered him food, support, and teachings. To this day, practitioners honor Tsheringma for guidance, protection, and the realization of wisdom through perseverance.
