Who is Vajrasattva?

Vajrasattva is also called the Dorje Sempa in Tibetan. The lord of sacred purification. He is a celestial Buddha of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. He is the purifier of negative karma. He can remove past karmic obscurations to enlightenment.

In his Yab Yum form, he is joined by his consort. This is a metaphor. It demonstrates that wisdom and compassion go together. They exist together. They go together. With both, enlightenment is possible.

He has the mantra “ Om Vajrasattva Hum”. Chanted is the 100-syllable Vajrasattva mantra. They are used for purification. They help cleanse the mind, purify the heart, and remove past karma. Chanting this mantra in the presence of a consecrated statue of Vajrasattva is one of the strongest purification rituals in the whole Vajrayana system.
