Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as the Buddha, is the historical figure who founded Buddhism. He was born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, around 563 BCE, he was raised in a life of luxury. After witnessing the suffering in the world deeply disturbed him, prompting him to leave his royal life behind to seek spiritual understanding. After many years of intense meditation and ascetic practices, Siddhartha achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India, becoming the Buddha, or "the Awakened One." He then dedicated his life to teaching the path to enlightenment, known as the Dharma, which includes the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.
