Wrathful Mahakala Bernagchen Statue | Lost Wax Copper Sculpture from Nepal

Crafted in Nepal using the traditional lost wax copper technique, this Mahakala Bernagchen statue features hand-painted detailing and gold-gilded ornaments. The deity is portrayed in his wrathful form with a deep blue complexion, three fierce eyes and an open snarling mouth. He stands dynamically atop a lotus seat, trampling a human figure representing ego and ignorance, while holding a kartika knife in his raised right hand and a kapala skull cup in his left. His five-skull crown, flowing cloak, and Mundamala garland are all carefully rendered, with a decorative flaming aureole rising behind him.

This statue is a well-crafted representation of Bernagchen — the "Great Black Cloak" — one of the principal protector deities in the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. It is a fitting addition to a home altar or a personal collection of Himalayan Buddhist art.

Please note: The statue in the photograph is the actual piece for sale, ensuring authenticity and exclusivity.

About Mahakala Bernagchen

Mahakala Bernagchen, a wrathful protector deity in Vajrayana Buddhism, is revered as a fierce guardian of the Dharma and remover of obstacles for practitioners. Often depicted with a terrifying expression, multiple arms, and holding symbolic implements, he embodies the enlightened energy that destroys ignorance, ego, and negative forces. In the Karma Kagyu lineage, Bernagchen Mahakala is especially significant as the personal guardian of the Karmapas, ensuring the protection and continuity of the teachings. According to legend, Mahakala appeared in response to threats against the Dharma, using his wrathful form to subdue harmful forces while maintaining compassionate intent, illustrating the balance of fearsome power and enlightened wisdom. This deity is invoked in rituals and meditation for protection, overcoming obstacles, and supporting spiritual progress.
