This large Shakyamuni Buddha statue presents the Enlightened One in the sacred Bhumisparsha Mudra where his right hand extends downward to summon the Earth to witness his supreme awakening. Cradled in his left hand is a begging bowl, a timeless emblem of renunciation. Seated upon a tiered lotus throne, his golden form conveys both spiritual vitality and the nature of enlightened consciousness.

This piece begins with the lost-wax casting process, practiced by master Newari artisans of the Kathmandu Valley. It is then patiently refined through three-dimensional carving and chiseling, smoothing every curve before being finished with triple layers of luminous gold fire-gilding and with semi-precious stones. Delicate repoussé work brings the monastic robe to life, while a grand halo of flowing cloud motifs, set with alternating turquoise beads. From the ushnisha crowning his head to the sacred Shakyamuni mantra, "Om Muni Muni Mahamuni Shakyamuniye Svaha", carved along the back of the lotus seat, every detail reflects the refined heritage of Newari art.
