About Medicine Buddha

Medicine Buddha, known in Sanskrit as Bhaisajyaguru and revered throughout Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, is the enlightened Buddha of healing, medicine, and spiritual well-being. He is celebrated for his profound vows to alleviate the suffering of sentient beings, curing not only physical illnesses but also the deeper afflictions of ignorance, attachment, and negative karma. Depicted holding a bowl of healing nectar and a myrobalan medicinal plant, he embodies the transformative power of wisdom and compassion. While often associated with health and longevity, a lesser-known aspect of Medicine Buddha's practice is its emphasis on ethical living and mental purification as essential foundations for genuine healing. Medicine Buddha symbolizes the restoration of balance within body and mind, guiding practitioners toward holistic wellness, inner peace, and ultimate liberation from suffering.
