Maitreya Buddha

Maitreya Buddha, revered in Buddhist tradition as the future Buddha, is currently a bodhisattva residing in Tushita Heaven. According to teachings, Maitreya Buddha will descend to Earth to renew and preach the dharma (“law”) when the teachings of Gautama Buddha have faded. As the earliest bodhisattva around whom a devoted following formed, Maitreya Buddha is mentioned in scriptures dating back to the 3rd century CE. Celebrated across all schools of Buddhism, Maitreya Buddha remains the only bodhisattva widely honored in the Theravada tradition, symbolizing hope and the promise of future enlightenment.
