Siddhartha Gautama, born as the crown prince of the Shakya Kingdom, was raised to fulfill his royal father’s dreams of him becoming a king. However, at the age of 29, Siddhartha encountered the immense suffering of humanity and realized the inherent pain of life. This led him to renounce his royal life, abandoning the comforts of his palace, magnificent robes, and wealth, in search of answers to the causes of human suffering and ways to alleviate it. After six years of intense study, self-discipline, and meditation, Siddhartha Gautama achieved his ultimate goal—enlightenment—and became the Shakyamuni Buddha. With his newfound wisdom, he journeyed to the Deer Park in Sarnath, near Varanasi, India, where he began sharing his profound teachings on overcoming suffering and attaining spiritual liberation.
