Amitabha Buddha

Amitabha Buddha—known as the "Buddha of Infinite Light"—is one of the most revered Buddhas in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. He presides over the Western Pure Land (Sukhavati), a blissful realm where beings can be reborn through devotion and accumulate the conditions necessary for enlightenment. The name "Amitabha" (Sanskrit: अमिताभ) translates to "Limitless Light," while he is also called Amitayus, meaning "Infinite Life," reflecting his boundless compassion and wisdom.

According to Buddhist scriptures, Amitabha was once a bodhisattva named Dharmakara, who made 48 vows to create a pure realm where sentient beings could easily progress toward enlightenment. The most famous of these vows promises that anyone who sincerely chants his name—“Namo Amituofo” (Chinese) or “Namo Amitabha Buddha”—with faith and aspiration will be reborn in his Pure Land.
