Amitayus

Amitayus, known as the Buddha of Boundless Life, is a revered figure in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, closely associated with longevity, merit, and wisdom. He is considered a sambhogakaya aspect of Amitabha Buddha, embodying the infinite life force that supports spiritual development and enlightenment. Amitayus is typically depicted in radiant red, adorned with a crown and jewels, seated in meditative posture while holding a vase filled with amrita, the nectar of immortality. This vase often contains leaves of the ashoka tree, symbolizing a life free from suffering and disease. Practitioners invoke Amitayus through visualization and mantra recitation to cultivate long life, vitality, and spiritual clarity. His practice is especially popular in Tibetan Buddhism, where he is one of the three long-life deities, alongside White Tara and Namgyalma.
