Buddha Shakyamuni

Buddha Shakyamuni, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was the historical founder of Buddhism and is revered as the Awakened One who discovered the path to liberation from suffering. Born around the 5th or 6th century BCE in Lumbini, present-day Nepal, he was a prince of the Shakya clan. Sheltered from the harsh realities of life, Siddhartha encountered old age, sickness, and death during excursions outside his palace, which deeply moved him and sparked a quest for spiritual truth. At age 29, he renounced his royal life and became a wandering ascetic. After years of intense meditation and self-discipline, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya at age 35, realizing the nature of suffering and the path to its cessation.

From then on, he became known as the Buddha, meaning “the one who has awakened.” For the next 45 years, he traveled across northern India, teaching the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path to thousands of followers. His teachings emphasized compassion, mindfulness, and the impermanence of all things. At the age of 80, he passed into parinirvana, leaving behind a legacy that continues to inspire millions around the world.
