Chenrezig

Chenrezig, known as Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit, is the Bodhisattva of Compassion who embodies the loving kindness of all Buddhas and who is especially revered in Tibetan Buddhism as the patron deity of Tibet. He is often depicted with four arms, symbolizing the four immeasurable qualities of love, compassion, joy, and equanimity, and his central hands hold a wish-fulfilling jewel at his heart to express his boundless altruism. His other hands hold a lotus flower and a crystal mala, which represent purity and continuous compassionate activity. Chenrezig made a profound vow to remain in the world until all sentient beings are liberated from suffering, and when he became overwhelmed by the enormity of this task, his body shattered and was reassembled by Amitabha Buddha into a form with a thousand arms and eleven heads so he could help countless beings simultaneously.
