Shakyamuni Buddha

Shakyamuni Buddha, originally born as Siddhartha Gautama, was the crown prince of the powerful Shakya Kingdom and raised to fulfill his father's dream of becoming a great king. However, at the age of 29, Siddhartha encountered the profound suffering of the world—old age, sickness, and death—which stirred deep compassion within him. Renouncing his royal life, luxurious robes, and gold, he set out on a spiritual quest to uncover the root causes of suffering and the path to liberation. Through nearly six years of intense meditation, ascetic practice, and deep contemplation, Shakyamuni Buddha ultimately attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi Tree, becoming the awakened one. Following his enlightenment, Shakyamuni Buddha journeyed to the Deer Park in Sarnath, near Varanasi, where he gave his first sermon, setting in motion the Wheel of Dharma and establishing the foundation of Buddhism.
