Goddess Dukar

Goddess Dukar, also known as Sitatapatra or Ushnisha Sitatapatra, is a revered protective deity in Tibetan Buddhism, believed to emanate from the ushnisha of Shakyamuni Buddha as a manifestation of his enlightened energy. Known as the "White Umbrella Goddess," she is venerated for her power to dispel obstacles, avert supernatural dangers, and protect against harmful influences, particularly black magic and disease. Often depicted with a thousand arms, eyes, and faces, each symbolizing omniscient awareness and compassion, Dukar is considered a female counterpart of Avalokiteshvara. A fascinating story tells of how a devoted practitioner, threatened by powerful demons during his retreat in a remote cave, was saved when he recited Dukar’s mantra—instantly enveloped by a vast white parasol of light that dissolved the spirits and sealed the cave in peace.
