Ekajati

Ekajati, revered as one of the fiercest protector goddesses in Vajrayana Buddhism, is known as the “One Plaited Mother” due to her single tuft of hair symbolizing non-duality and ultimate truth. She is regarded as the guardian of secret mantras, especially those of Dzogchen teachings, and is believed to remove obstacles, protect practitioners, and grant spiritual power. Often depicted with a single eye, breast, and fang, her unique form emphasizes her transcendence beyond ordinary dualistic perception. According to Tibetan tradition, she is considered the mother of all dakinis and a principal protector of great masters like Padmasambhava, who entrusted her with safeguarding esoteric teachings. A famous story recounts how she appeared to the scholar-saint Longchenpa, empowering him to preserve the Dzogchen lineage during turbulent times. For devotees, Ekajati is not only a fierce guardian but also a compassionate mother who ensures the purity of practice and guides seekers toward ultimate liberation.
