Four-Armed Chenrezig

Four-Armed Chenrezig, known as Avalokitesvara in Sanskrit, is one of the most beloved bodhisattvas in Tibetan Buddhism and embodies the compassion of all Buddhas. He is portrayed with a serene white body, symbolizing purity, and four arms that convey his limitless capacity to help sentient beings. Two hands are joined at his heart, holding a wish-fulfilling jewel, representing the compassionate intention of bodhicitta; the other hands hold a crystal mala for continuous compassionate activity and a lotus flower symbolizing spiritual awakening. Chenrezig's gentle gaze and peaceful posture inspire practitioners to cultivate love and kindness toward all beings. His mantra—OM MANI PADME HUM—is a powerful invocation of compassion and is widely chanted across the Himalayas.
