Vajrakilaya

Vajrakilaya, known in Tibetan as Dorje Phurba, is one of the most powerful wrathful yidam deities in Vajrayana Buddhism, representing the enlightened activity that conquers negativity, obstacles, and inner afflictions. Manifesting in a fierce blue form with three faces, six arms, and wings of flames, Vajrakilaya wields a ritual dagger (phurba) symbolizing the destruction of ignorance and ego. According to sacred texts, Guru Padmasambhava attained realization through intensive Vajrakilaya practice before bringing Buddhism to Tibet, using this deity’s power to subdue obstructive forces that hindered the Dharma. Despite his wrathful appearance, Vajrakilaya embodies ultimate compassion, transforming anger into wisdom and delusion into liberation. His practice remains central in many Nyingma and Kagyu lineages, guiding practitioners to purify their minds and awaken the unshakable clarity of enlightenment.
