Shakyamuni Buddha

Shakyamuni Buddha, born as Siddhartha Gautama, was the crown prince of the Shakya Kingdom, destined by his royal father to become a great king. However, upon witnessing the harsh realities of life—old age, sickness, and death—he was deeply moved by the suffering that all beings endure. After six years of rigorous ascetic practice, deep meditation, and unwavering discipline, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, becoming the Awakened One—Shakyamuni Buddha, the Sage of the Shakyas. With his heart filled with boundless wisdom and compassion, he traveled to the Deer Park in Sarnath, near Varanasi, where he delivered his first sermon and set in motion the Wheel of Dharma.
