Four-Armed Chenrezig

Avalokiteshvara, the Four-Armed Chenrezig is one of those deities who is most widely spoken of and revered about his origin. He is held in quite a high regard because he is a figure representing infinite compassion for all sentient beings. These four arms signify the boundless reach that he extends in helping others; two hands in a prayer gesture (anjali mudra) hold the wish-fulfilling jewel, which symbolizes the heart of compassion, and the right-hand holds a rosary to indicate prayers without ceasing for all beings, while the left-hand holds a lotus to indicate purity and awakening. He is regarded as the very embodiment of all Buddhas' compassion; his mantra, "Om Mani Padme Hum," is one of the most chanted prayers of Buddhism, invoking the qualities of compassion and mercy.
