Handcrafted Tibetan Neshi Rice Pot for Ritual Offerings

This Handcrafted Tibetan Neshi Rice Pot is a stunning sacred vessel, masterfully shaped from copper by Newari artists. Standing 7 inches tall and 11.5 cm wide, this ritual pot undergoes a meticulous multi-stage creation process: first chemically oxidized to produce its deep blackened patina that makes every carved detail visible, then gold-gilded across its raised surfaces to create the luminous two-tone contrast. This vessel is brought to life through hand-chasing and three-dimensional relief carving — ancient Newari techniques that cannot be replicated by machine. Producing deeply textured scenes of swirling cloud scrolls, feather fronds and dense vegetal tendrils that spiral upward from the fluted pedestal base, across the body and over the domed lid.

Used in Tibetan Buddhist altar practice, the Neshi Pot is a vessel of sacred offering, traditionally filled with blessed rice, barley, or precious grains and placed on the shrine as a symbol of abundance and merit accumulation. Whether gracing a personal meditation altar or a collector's display, this gold-gilded Neshi Pot from Nidhiratna is an authentic piece of living Himalayan sacred art.

Please note: The Pot in the photograph is the actual piece for sale, ensuring authenticity and exclusivity.

About Neshi Rice Pot

The Buddhist Neshi Rice Pot is a traditional ritual vessel originating from the Himalayan regions, particularly Tibet and Nepal, where it has been used for centuries in monastic and household offerings. Crafted from brass, copper, or bronze, often hand-hammered and adorned with auspicious symbols, it holds grains of rice as a gesture of generosity and abundance during daily pujas and larger ceremonies. Rooted in the Tibetan Buddhist principle of “dana” (generosity), the pot symbolizes the wish to nourish all beings without attachment. One legend tells of a humble monk in Mustang who offered a single rice grain daily in his Neshi pot with unwavering devotion, and by the end of his life, it was said that the pot never emptied, even in times of famine, seen as a sign of karmic merit and divine blessing.
