Shakyamuni Buddha

Shakyamuni Buddha, originally born as Siddhartha Gautama, was the crown prince of the ancient Shakya Kingdom, destined to fulfill his royal father’s wish of becoming a great king. However, at the age of 29, Siddhartha encountered the harsh realities of life—old age, sickness, and death—and became deeply moved by the suffering of humanity. Renouncing his luxurious palace life, ornate robes, and royal status, he set out on a spiritual quest to uncover the root causes of suffering and the path to liberation. After six years of rigorous ascetic practice, deep meditation, and inner discipline, Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment, becoming the Shakyamuni Buddha, or “Sage of the Shakyas.” With profound wisdom and compassion, the historical Buddha delivered his first sermon at Deer Park in Sarnath, near Varanasi, where he introduced the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, guiding all beings toward the end of suffering and spiritual awakening.
