Palden Lhamo

Palden Lhamo, revered as a fierce protective deity in Tibetan Buddhism, is the only female among the Eight Dharma Protectors and serves as a guardian of the Buddha’s teachings and practitioners. She is particularly venerated by the Dalai Lamas and often associated with the defense of Lhasa, Tibet’s capital. Known as a wrathful manifestation of the goddess Saraswati, Palden Lhamo appears in a formidable form, riding a mule across a sea of blood, symbolizing her triumph over negative forces. She wields powerful implements, such as a skull cup and a trident, embodying her commitment to vanquishing ignorance and evil. This protector deity plays a critical role in Vajrayana practices, as she embodies unwavering protection, wisdom, and the fierce compassion essential for spiritual transformation.
