White Tara: The Mother of Compassion

White Tara, also known as Sitatara, is a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism symbolizing compassion, healing, and longevity. As a manifestation of the female Buddha Tara, she is called the “Mother of Liberation” and is deeply associated with wisdom, serenity, and enlightened activity. Her radiant white form represents purity and the power to dispel suffering, fear, and obstacles on the spiritual path.

According to legend, White Tara emerged from a tear of Avalokiteshvara, embodying his boundless compassion. She is depicted in a meditative posture with seven eyes—on her face, hands, and feet—signifying her all-seeing awareness. Holding a white lotus and forming the varada mudra, she blesses devotees with health, long life, and spiritual clarity. Her mantra, “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Mama Ayuh Punya Jñana Pustim Kuru Svaha,” is chanted to invoke her healing and protective presence.
