Shakyamuni Buddha

Siddhartha Gautama, born as the crown prince of the powerful Shakya Kingdom, was destined for royalty under his father's rule. However, at the age of 29, Siddhartha became deeply moved by the realities of human suffering—illness, aging, and death. Renouncing his luxurious palace life, golden robes, and princely duties, he embarked on a spiritual quest to understand the root causes of suffering and discover a path to liberation. After nearly six years of intense meditation, ascetic practices, and profound self-discipline, Siddhartha Gautama attained enlightenment, becoming the Shakyamuni Buddha. Following his awakening, he traveled to the deer park in Sarnath, near Varanasi, India, where he gave his first sermon and set in motion the Wheel of Dharmathe foundation of Buddhist teachings followed by millions to this day.
