Siddhartha Gautama (Shakyamuni Buddha)

Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, is the historical founder of Buddhism and one of the most revered spiritual teachers in the world. Born around the 5th to 6th century BCE in Lumbini, present-day Nepal, Siddhartha was a royal prince who renounced his luxurious life to seek a deeper understanding of the suffering he witnessed around him. His quest for truth led him through intense meditation and ascetic practices until he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree in Bodh Gaya, India. From that moment, he became known as Shakyamuni, meaning “Sage of the Shakya Clan.”

Shakyamuni Buddha’s teachings form the foundation of Buddhism and are centered around the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, which offer a guide to overcoming suffering and achieving nirvana, or liberation from the cycle of birth and death. His message emphasizes compassion, mindfulness, ethical living, and self-realization, inspiring millions across cultures and generations.
