Shakyamuni Buddha

Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, is the historical founder of Buddhism and one of the most revered spiritual figures in human history. Born into royalty in the Shakya clan in Lumbini modern-day Nepal around the 6th century BCE, he renounced his privileged life after encountering the realities of suffering, aging, and death. Driven by a profound desire to understand the nature of existence, he undertook a spiritual quest that culminated in his enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. From that moment, he became the Buddha, or “Awakened One,” and spent the rest of his life teaching the Dharma—the path to liberation from suffering.
