Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was born as the crown prince of the mighty Shakya Kingdom. His father, King Suddhodhana, envisioned him as a great ruler and nurtured him to inherit the throne. His mother, Queen Maya, played a significant role in his early life, though she passed away shortly after his birth. Despite his royal upbringing and luxurious life, Siddhartha’s perspective shifted dramatically when, at around 29 years old, he encountered the profound suffering of people outside the palace walls. Deeply moved by their pain, he made the courageous decision to renounce his princely life, leaving behind his lavish robes, wealth, and palace comforts.

Driven by a quest to understand the root of human suffering and to find a way to alleviate it, Siddhartha embarked on a spiritual journey. After nearly six years of intense study, self-discipline, and meditation, he achieved his goal—enlightenment, becoming the Buddha, or the "Awakened One." Following his enlightenment, he traveled to the Deer Park in Sarnath, near Varanasi, India, where he delivered his first sermon, setting in motion the Wheel of Dharma. This marked the beginning of his lifelong mission to share the path to liberation and peace with all beings. The story of Shakyamuni Buddha—from prince to enlightened teacher—remains a timeless inspiration for seekers of truth and spiritual awakening.
