Shakyamuni Buddha

Shakyamuni Buddha, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, was a spiritual teacher and the founder of Buddhism, born in the 6th century BCE in Lumbini, present-day Nepal. As a prince of the Shakya clan, he lived a life of luxury until he encountered the realities of aging, sickness, and death, which deeply moved him and sparked a quest to understand and overcome suffering. At the age of 29, he renounced his royal life and embarked on a spiritual journey, practicing extreme asceticism before ultimately discovering the "Middle Way"—a balanced path between indulgence and self-denial. At 35, while meditating under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, he attained enlightenment and became the Buddha, meaning “Awakened One.” For the next 45 years, Shakyamuni Buddha traveled across northern India, sharing his insights through teachings such as the Four Noble Truths and the Noble Eightfold Path, which guide followers toward liberation from suffering.
