Sangay Shakya Thupa

Sangay Shakya Thupa, known globally as Shakyamuni Buddha, is the historical founder of Buddhism and one of the most revered spiritual figures in the world. Born as Siddhartha Gautama in the Shakya clan of ancient India, he was a prince who renounced his royal life in search of truth and liberation from suffering. After years of deep meditation and ascetic practice, he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree and became the Buddha—“the Awakened One.” In Tibetan, he is called Sangay Shakya Thupa, which translates to “Buddha, the Sage of the Shakyas,” emphasizing both his lineage and his enlightened wisdom.
