Vajrasattva

Vajrasattva, whose name means “Diamond Being” or “Thunderbolt Being,” is a revered figure in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, especially known for his role in purification practices. He embodies the purity of the enlightened mind and is often invoked to cleanse negative karma and restore broken spiritual commitments, known as samaya.

Depicted as a radiant white figure, Vajrasattva holds a vajra (symbolizing compassion and indestructible truth) in his right hand and a bell (symbolizing wisdom) in his left. This union of compassion and wisdom reflects the core of tantric Buddhist philosophy. His practice is central to the Ngondro, or preliminary practices, in Tibetan Buddhism, where practitioners recite his Hundred Syllable Mantra to purify obscurations and prepare for deeper meditative work.
