Description

Oxidized Medicine Buddha Statue with Healing Bowl | Bhaisajyaguru Sculpture

Crafted in Nepal through the lost-wax casting process, this Medicine Buddha is formed entirely from copper with an oxidized patina achieved through chemical treatment. The gold-painted face radiates a divine gaze, enclosed by a spiritual halo that establishes the figure's sacred presence. The monk's robes are adorned in gold-gilding, their surface worked with intricate repousse technique. Buddha holds a golden healing bowl and myrobalan stem—precise iconographic attributes tied directly to Bhaisajyaguru's function as healer. Seated on an oxidized lotus pedestal, the entire composition embodies the Buddhist principle of enlightenment arising from the acknowledgment of suffering.

Bhaisajyaguru occupies a distinct role within Buddhist practice—the Buddha dedicated to healing and the removal of affliction. The healing bowl and medicinal plant are not ornamental details but essential theological components that define his specific transmission and spiritual purpose. Nepali craftsmen have preserved these iconographic traditions with consistency across generations, ensuring that each statue maintains authentic spiritual communication.

Please note: The statue in the photograph is the actual piece for sale, ensuring authenticity and exclusivity.

About Medicine Buddha

Medicine Buddha represents Bhaishajyaguru, the Buddha of Healing, who is a significant figure in Mahayana Buddhism and Tibetan traditions. Known as the "Medicine Master," he is often depicted seated in a meditative posture, holding a bowl of healing herbs in one hand and his other hand in a gesture of teaching or reassurance. The Medicine Buddha embodies the qualities of compassion and healing, offering solace to those suffering from physical and mental ailments. The Medicine Buddha's Pure Land, also known as "Amitabha," is believed to be a place of great tranquillity and healing energy.
