Thangtong Gyalpo Statue: A Tribute to Bhutan’s Legendary Bridge Builder

Honor the legacy of Thangtong Gyalpo with this exquisitely crafted statue, a tribute to Bhutan’s revered saint, engineer, and legendary bridge builder. Handmade by skilled Nepali artisans using metalworking techniques, this oxidized copper sculpture embodies both craftsmanship and spiritual symbolism.

The master is seated in a meditative posture upon a striped deer-skin seat, symbolizing yogic accomplishment. His right hand gently holds a chain, referencing his renowned iron-chain bridge constructions, while his left hand supports a ritual vase associated with longevity. The gold-painted face with flowing white hair and a long white beard emphasizes his advanced age. Intricately carved robes, elongated earrings, and finely painted facial details further enhance the statue’s sacred presence.

Finished with a rich oxidized patina, the copper surface has been carefully treated to create a brownish yet polished appearance that highlights depth and character. Semi-precious stone inlays adorn the earrings, necklace, bracelets, and robe accents, offering a striking contrast against the body. Ideal for personal shrines or as a meaningful gift, this handcrafted statue serves as a timeless reminder of the enlightened master whose contributions continue to inspire practitioners throughout the Buddhist world.
