Garuda

In Buddhist mythology, Garuda is a powerful, semi-divine bird king revered as a protector and enemy of serpents (nāgas), symbolizing the triumph of wisdom over poison, fear, and hidden negativity. Originating from ancient Indian lore and adopted into Vajrayana Buddhism, Garuda represents fearless awakened energy, often invoked in tantric practices to heal illness, dispel obstacles, and subdue harmful forces. An enduring story tells of Garuda’s compassion-driven struggle with the nāgas, where mastery over poison transformed hostility into protection, reflecting the Buddhist path of transforming suffering into enlightenment. In Tibetan Buddhism, Garuda is regarded as a Guardian of Treasure, safeguarding hidden teachings (termas) and inner spiritual wealth, while soaring freely through the sky to signify liberation beyond attachment and illusion. This blend of myth, symbolism, and practice makes Garuda a revered figure embodying protection, healing, and swift enlightened activity.
