Tibetan Buddhist Butter Lamps | Ritual Offering Lamp | Nepalese Art & Craft

Illuminate your sacred space with our beautifully crafted Copper and Brass Gilded Butter Lamp, designed for ritual light offerings and spiritual practice. Standing 17.5cm tall with a 13cm width, each lamp is lightweight at just 0.82kg and features an ornate design that embodies the timeless symbolism of light as knowledge. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, offering a butter lamp dispels the darkness of ignorance, bringing clarity and spiritual insight. More than a ritual object, the act of preparing and presenting a butter lamp is a meditative practice. From cleansing your hands and purifying the chalices to carefully shaping the cotton wick, each step engages body and mind in devotion. These lamps are ideal for use in pujas, blessings, commemorations, and daily meditation, making them both a profound spiritual tool and a beautiful addition to your altar.

Butter Lamp

To use the Butter Lamp, simply fill it with your choice of oil—coconut oil, vegetable oil, or traditional yak butter—and insert a rolled cotton wick upright through the central hole. In Tibetan Buddhist rituals, lighting the butter lamp is a powerful act of devotion, often performed in large numbers during auspicious occasions such as the full moon day, new moon day, and important spiritual ceremonies. The Buddhist butter lamp is traditionally placed between the fourth and fifth offering bowls in a row of seven offering bowls filled with pure water, positioned before sacred images on the household shrine.
