Yeshe Tsogyal & Mandarva

Lhacham Mandarva, the enlightened consort of Guru Padmasambhava, was no ordinary being. Foretold to be a manifestation of the wisdom body Vajravarahi, her birth fulfilled a prophecy made by Buddha Kashyapa's disciple. Born as a royal princess—the daughter of King Vihardhara of Zahor and a Mohawk queen—Mandarva embraced the spiritual path early in life. By the age of 16, she had taken monastic vows and, upon meeting Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), immediately recognized his divine wisdom. Secretly, within the palace, Mandarva and her attendants received profound Vajrayana empowerments, and she soon became both the consort and disciple of the great Mahaguru.

Yeshe Tsogyal, known as the “Wisdom Ocean Queen,” is equally revered in Tibetan Buddhism as an embodiment of enlightened feminine energy. She manifests across three dimensions of existence: as the princess of Kharchen in her human form (nirmanakaya), as the celestial Vajrayogini in symbolic form (sambhogakaya), and as Samantabhadri, the ultimate dharmakaya form, representing the feminine aspect of the primordial Buddha Samantabhadra. Through her presence, Yeshe Tsogyal empowers the cultivation of nondual wisdom, spiritual realization, and inner liberation in Vajrayana practices.
