Virupa

Virupa, an 8th-century Indian tantric master and revered saint, is celebrated for his transformative teachings and miraculous feats in Vajrayana Buddhism. Known as a mahasiddha, or great adept, Virupa achieved enlightenment through rigorous tantric practices and is famed for his ability to manipulate natural elements, most notably "stopping the sun" in a legendary act that disrupted time itself to extend his meditation practice. A former monk from Nalanda University, Virupa ultimately embraced unconventional, "crazy wisdom" methods, symbolizing the power of transcending dualistic perceptions. His image often shows him raising a hand to the sun, representing his mastery over illusion or shows distinctive hand mudras and his role as a protector of the Dharma, inspiring practitioners to pursue wisdom and inner freedom.
