Manjushri
Manjushri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, is depicted holding a flaming sword (Khadga) in his right hand, symbolizing the power of enlightenment to cut through ignorance and delusion. His left hand, raised in the Tarjani Mudra (gesture of warning), holds the stem of a Blue Lotus (Utpala), upon which rests the Book of Perfection of Transcendental Wisdom (Pustaka). The Blue Lotus represents the triumph of wisdom over sensory distractions, signifying pure knowledge and spiritual insight. According to legend, Manjushri obtained this sacred lotus from a lake in the Kathmandu Valley, where a blue flame emerged, symbolizing transcendent wisdom.
Seated on a moon disc atop a lotus, Manjushri is adorned with a golden diadem embedded with precious jewels, a silk sash tied at the waist, and a flowing green scarf decorated with golden motifs. His radiant nimbus frames his serene expression, enhancing his divine presence. The elongated lotus stem rising from the lake represents his discovery of the blue flame of wisdom and his role in spreading its teachings. His white sash signifies his association with the Vajrayana tradition, emphasizing the deep spiritual significance of Manjushri in Buddhist philosophy.
