Machig Labdron was an 11th-century Tibetan yogini, renowned for founding the unique Chöd practice, which emphasizes cutting through ego and attachment to realize ultimate wisdom. As a highly accomplished practitioner, she became a symbol of feminine strength and spiritual mastery, blending the teachings of Indian and Tibetan Buddhism with indigenous Tibetan traditions. Machig Labdron’s practice involves visualizing offering one’s body to benevolent and malevolent beings alike, a method believed to dissolve fear and ego clinging, leading to profound insight and compassion. Her teachings spread widely, forming an integral part of the Kagyu and Nyingma schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
