Four-Armed Mahakala

The Four-Armed Mahakala is a wrathful protector deity in Vajrayana Buddhism, revered for his fierce power to remove obstacles, destroy negative forces, and safeguard practitioners on the path to enlightenment. Mahakala is traditionally depicted with a wrathful expression, four arms holding symbolic implements, and standing atop a flaming base, which embodies the energy of compassion transformed into protective action. According to Nepalese lore, Mahakala once appeared to a group of monks threatened by malevolent spirits, subduing the forces with his formidable presence and ensuring the monks’ practice could continue unharmed, a story that underscores his role as the ultimate guardian of Dharma.
