Je Tsongkhapa
Je Tsongkhapa (1357–1419) was a renowned Tibetan Buddhist scholar, teacher, and the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. Born in Amdo, his exceptional intellect and spiritual inclination were evident from a young age. He studied under many prominent teachers and synthesized the teachings of the various Buddhist schools into a coherent system emphasizing ethics, concentration, and wisdom. Tsongkhapa is best known for his monumental text The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Lamrim Chenmo), which guides practitioners in their spiritual journey. A deeply revered figure, he is celebrated annually during the Ganden Ngamchoe festival with the lighting of butter lamps, commemorating his parinirvana. One interesting story highlights his humility: despite his immense knowledge, he sought instruction from even lesser-known teachers, demonstrating his commitment to learning. His teachings continue to inspire millions seeking clarity, compassion, and enlightenment.
