Medicine Buddha

Medicine Buddha, known as Bhaiṣajyaguru in Sanskrit and Sangye Menla in Tibetan, is the embodiment of healing and compassion in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Radiant blue like lapis lazuli, he holds a medicine bowl in his left hand and a healing myrobalan plant in his right, symbolizing his power to cure physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. Revered as the supreme physician, Medicine Buddha is invoked through mantra recitation and visualization practices to purify karma, promote well-being, and aid in the healing of others. His presence is especially vital in rituals for the sick and dying, offering solace and the promise of rebirth in a pure realm. Through devotion to Medicine Buddha, practitioners cultivate the qualities of wisdom, compassion, and the deep intention to alleviate suffering in all beings.
