Amitabha Buddha

Amitabha Buddha, whose name means “Infinite Light,” is one of the most revered figures in Mahayana Buddhism and especially central to the Pure Land tradition. He is known as the Buddha of Boundless Compassion and Wisdom, and he presides over a celestial realm called Sukhavati, or the Western Pure Land, a paradise where beings can be reborn and easily attain enlightenment. According to legend, Amitabha was once a monk named Dharmakara who made 48 profound vows to create a realm of perfect peace and joy. His most famous vow promised that anyone who sincerely calls upon his name with faith and aspiration would be reborn in his Pure Land, regardless of their past karma.
