About Green Tara

Green Tara, known as Syamatara in Sanskrit, is one of the most beloved and compassionate deities in Tibetan Buddhism. Revered as the embodiment of enlightened activity and the swift protector from fear and suffering, she is often called the “Mother of Liberation.” Green Tara is believed to have emerged from a tear of Avalokiteshvara (the Bodhisattva of Compassion), vowing to take female form to benefit all sentient beings.

Symbolizing action, courage, and protection, Green Tara is depicted seated in a graceful posture with her right leg extended, ready to spring into action to aid those in need. Her left hand holds a blue lotus (utpala), representing purity and divine wisdom, while her right hand is in the gesture of generosity and compassion. Practitioners recite her mantra, “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha,” to overcome physical, emotional, and spiritual obstacles, and to invite swift healing, guidance, and liberation.
