Who is Green Tara?

Green Tara is the Mother Tara and the Swift Liberator. She is the most popular figure in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. She is the dynamic expression of compassion. She does not hesitate. When a being cries out in fear and pain, she comes.

She is said to have been born from a tear of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of compassion. She made a vow to remain in the world and liberate all beings from fear, pain, and suffering. The colour green represents life, activity, and the working of compassion in the world.

Her mantra is “Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha”. It’s one of the most popular Tibetan mantras. It is chanted for her protection, courage, and immediate assistance. Reciting it in front of her statue enhances the meditation.
